In July 2009, the Town of Tisdale celebrated the completion of a solar project for the Tisdale RECPlex. In total, 80 thermal solar collectors were installed on the roof- a project that was designed to provide heat for their outdoor pool.
As heating costs rise, many municipalities in the province are finding it difficult to operate their facilities. The provincial Go Green Fund (SHIFT) and federal ecoEnergy program both offer assistance to help subsidize the cost of installing a solar project. This funding helped the Town of Tisdale by contributing $86,000 in combined grants.
“Energy costs were a considerable reason for us to pursue the solar option. We wouldn’t have been able to afford the project without the funding from SRC and NRCAN,” says Dwight Olsen, Recreation and Parks Manager for the Town of Tisdale.
It is estimated that this project will save approximately 23 tonnes of C02 per year.
